§ 58-62. Determination and posting of load limits.

  • (a)

    The county director of public works shall direct a study of the roads of the county, and in such director's discretion, without impeding the flow of necessary commercial traffic, make and determine proper load limits for those roads which are being damaged and destroyed by overweight traffic, and having determined a proper load limit, shall report the same to the board of commissioners for its approval. The approved load limits shall be recorded in the official minutes of the board, and the director shall post both ends of each such road with the standard state-designed signs notifying the traveling public of the established load limits. After the signs have been in place for a period of one week, the sheriff shall be instructed to enforce the same, pursuant to the provisions of O.C.G.A. § 32-1-10, and this Code.

    (b)

    Operation on a county road of a motor vehicle exceeding the load limit established for such road is prohibited.
