§ 26-162. Duties and responsibilities.

(a)

The commission is hereby charged with the duty and responsibility of (a) encouraging all citizens to end litter, minimize solid waste and beautify Screven County; (b) obtaining updated litter and solid waste control ordinances; and (c) seeking effective enforcement of all pertinent ordinances and laws.

(b)

Recommendations for changes in ordinances for the implementation of programs designed to accomplish its mission shall be submitted to the board of commissioners as recommendations for the board's consideration.

(c)

The commission is authorized to (a) have its own budget and expend funds toward accomplishment of its duties and responsibilities; and, (b) conduct its own fund-raising activities to generate funds to be used in addition to funds budgeted for the commission by the board of commissioners.
